Transfering film to your video camera on the cheap. You won't get the same quality as telecine or a film chain. We don't advise this in all instances. For a music video or something creative and fun it could be what you are looking for. If you want to share home movies with friends or family and don't want to spend alot of money this is the way to do it.

We find that using the DVX100, DVX100A or DVX100B cameras are perfect for doing this kind of transfer, especially if using synchro scan to elimnate any lines. Manually vary the speed on the projector if necessary.

Transfering your film to video involves 1.) setting up your camera parallel to the movie projector. 2. Set up your projector to project an image ona movie screen or transfer box screen. If possible try to get the smallest most & detailed and clearest image possible on the screen. 3. Set up your camera on a tripod parallel to the projector. Set up your camera view screen to frame the image on the screen or trasnfer box. 4. If you have a transfer box project directly onto the screen of the transfer box. On the other side there

is a tube that projects and magnifys the image so that the video camera will record the image. If it is a movie screen make certain that you transfer at night or in a dark room to get the best image possible. Please note that the rate that your transfer your film (frames per second) will determine if you see a video scan line that goes up or down the screen. Sometimes they show up, sometimes not. Controlling the speed of the projector will eliminate the scan line most of the time. Inexpensive telecine or film chain work can be handled by Yale Labs below.
