KODACHROME
40 Movie Film Super 8 or Double 8mm
Use in
Daylight or indoors with alot of artificial light. K40 is
a Tungsten balanced film. Use 85 Filter when outside. IMPORTANT:
ASA reverts to 25 ASA when using 85 filter. This is less than
1/2 or .05 difference.S
HANDLING
Load
and unload your camera in subdued light.
The
light side of the film must always face the camera lens. Read
your camera instructions carefully.
Before closing the the camera, run three to four inches of
film to make certain the film advances properly and is securely
attached to the take up spool.
To
expose the film completely, run it through your camera twice.
The first time you will expose 25 feet along half its width.
When
has run through the camera once, reload the film into the
camera and run it through a second time to expose the other
half.
When
you have exposed both halves of the roll, replace the rubber
band around the film and put it in the can as soon as possible.
Have your film processed promptly after the exposure. Don't
keep your movie camera and film in a hot place like a car
or glove compartment.
NOTES
ON KODACHROME
KODACHROME
is a slow reversal slide film which is essentially a black
and white film. Yes, you read it here. Kodachrome is a black
and white film formulated almost 60 years ago as a true color
film. It takes anywhere from 14 steps to process Kodachrome.
Uniike other color films, in which the dye couplers and color
dye is embedded in the matrix of the film layers, Kodachrome
processing adds the color in the processing of the film. This
makes Kodachrome extremely stable for archival and for any
use where color stability is important. It is not uncommon
to fins Kodachrome films shot over 50 years ago to look just
as good when they were first shot!Interestingly, Kodachrome
processing is a very labor intensive process, that needs precision
chemistry and that is why it is hard to find a place that
will process this film. Kodachrome
Film Stock Info PDF offers
information relevant to the chemistry of Kodachrome films.
The formulation is basically the same for all the Kodachrome
stocks. Please note characteristic curves for differences
in speed of film.
Kodachrome
is slide film and in general needs to be exposed correctly.
Too much exposure will wash out out all detail. Too little
exposure will not give you enough detail. You must expose
reversal films exactly to the reading on your lightmeter and
use a neutral denisty filter if necessary. Take into consideration
the speed of the film i.e. ASA, DIN number, the aperature you
are using and any filtration. Please calibrate settings to
your lightmeter and expose accordingly. For backlit closeup
subjects use miday between 5.6 and 8. Please contact us if
you are having trouble with processing.
